Endowment

In March of 2008, the Wyoming State Legislature passed the
Wyoming Endowment Challenge to help all county systems build endowments to forever fund our libraries.

What is an endowment?
Endowments establish funds that provide a permanent source of financial support.  The principal of the fund is NEVER spent; the investment income form the principal is used annually to support library services.  An endowment is not a reserve or "rainy day" account; it will forever provide for Washakie County Libraries.

How does the endowment help Washakie County Libraries?
The Washakie County Library Foundation must raise $98,550 within five years (before June 30, 2013).  We then receive the maximum 3:1 state match, a total of $295,652.  If counties raise $2.3 million collectively, the state will contribute an additional $100,000 to each foundation.  In so far as possible, all monies are invested locally.
